Sagar Bhattacharya 21st International Conference on Biological Inorganic Chemistry 2025

Sagar Bhattacharya

I am a Connie and Bob Lurie Postdoctoral Fellow of the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation in the department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at University of California, San Francisco. During my graduate studies in the Korendovych lab at Syracuse University, I have been involved in peptide and protein design to create catalysts for natural and non-natural reactions. I established NMR strategy as a potential tool for the rapid directed evolution of enzymes without structural, functional, and/or bioinformatic characterization. This novel method is anticipated to be a game changer in future efforts to design highly efficient biocatalysts. My current research in the DeGrado lab focuses on de novo protein design for enzyme catalysis and drug delivery in vivo. I expect that the novel delivery systems guided by protein design approaches would open up alternative treatment options for bacterial infection and/or cancer to improve human health.
