Paola Turano
Paola Turano is full professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry and President of the Magnetic Resonance Center (CERM; www.cerm.unifi.it) of the University of Florence. She was the recipient of the "Raffaello Nasini Medal 2003" of the Inorganic Chemistry Division of the Italian Chemical Society and of the GIDRM/GIRM Gold Medal 2023. Member of the Council of the Society of Biological Inorganic Chemistry (SBIC) from 2008 to 2012, and member of the SBIC Nominations Committee from 2024 to 2027; in the period 2012-2014 she was the Chair of the Division of Chemistry in Life Sciences of EuCheMS. The main topics of her research activity are: development and application of solution and solid state NMR approaches for the characterization of biomolecules, mainly focusing on paramagnetic metalloproteins and high molecular weight systems; characterization of protein-protein functional interactions and protein-small molecules interactions in drug design projects; structural biology of proteins involved in iron metabolism; NMR-based metabolomics and biobanks.
