Kenneth D Karlin
As Professor of Chemistry at Johns Hopkins University (1990- ; Ira Remsen Professor (1999-)), the research of Ken(neth) Karlin {B.S. Stanford U.; Ph.D., Columbia U.; NATO Postdoctoral, Cambridge U., UK; 1st academic position (1977-1989), SUNY Albany, New York} has centered on the design, generation and characterization of structural-reactivity-spectroscopic coordination complex models for copper metalloproteins whose active-sites process O2(g) or NO(g). The resulting works (385+ publications) have been recognized through his receipt of ACS National Awards for research/service and election as Fellows of the AAAS and American Chemical Society (ACS). Other contributions include the co-editing of a number of volumes on inorganic or copper bioinorganic chemistry, service as Chair of the ACS Inorganic Division (2013), service on reviewer Panels for the ACS/PRF and NIH and the co-organization of a number of (inter)national symposia in (copper) bioinorganic chemistry.
