Stefano Ciurli 21st International Conference on Biological Inorganic Chemistry 2025

Stefano Ciurli

I am Professor of General and Inorganic Chemistry at the University of Bologna. I received my Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from Harvard University (Cambridge, MA, USA) under the supervision of Prof. Richard H. Holm, and completed postdoctoral training at the University of Bologna with Prof. Ivano Bertini and Prof. Claudio Luchinat before joining the faculty at the University of Bologna. Since I became an independent scientist, my main interest has been focused on the chemistry of metal ions in biological systems. In my research, the metal-containing biomolecules are obtained from natural sources or using recombinant DNA technology, and their molecular structure and function are established using a structural biology approach, applying high resolution NMR spectroscopy, biocrystallography, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, circular dichroism, light-scattering, calorimetry, and computational methods.
