Richard C Holz

Dr. Holz has served as the Provost at the Colorado School of Mines since June 2019 and is a Professor of Chemistry. Prior to joining the Colorado School of Mines as Provost, Dr. Holz was a chemistry faculty member for six years at Marquette University and served as the Dean of the Hellen Way Klingler College of Arts and Sciences. Proceeding his move to Marquette, Dr. Holz served as the Associate Dean for Resources and Planning in the College of Arts and Sciences (2011-2013) and as the Chair of the Chemistry and Biochemistry Department (2006-2011). He was also an American Council on Education Fellow (Class if 2010-2011). Dr. Holz has a B.S. degree from Bemidji State University, an M.S. degree from the University of Minnesota-Duluth and a Ph.D. degree from The Pennsylvania State University, all in Chemistry. He was an NIH postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Minnesota from 1989-1992 and a faculty member at Utah State University from 1992-2006. Dr. Holz is married (Anna) to a Chemical Engineer who switched professions by acquiring an MS in nursing and is now a Nurse practitioner. He has two beautiful daughters, Emilia who is a junior at CU Boulder and Marika who is a sophomore at Mines.
